About Lorin Lindner
My focus has been helping veterans suffering from trauma and helping animals in desperate need of rescue and sanctuary. To this end I have created two programs, Birds of a Feather for veterans and parrots and Wolves and Warriors for veterans and wolves/wolfdogs.
My Treatment Focus
Helping veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injuries and other Complex Trauma, the Birds of a Feather program is part of Serenity Park Sanctuary which I founded in 2005, originally located on the grounds of the West Los Angeles VA Healthcare Center. Now, the Birds of a Feather program continues at Serenity Park Sanctuary’s northern location with its sister sanctuary the Lockwood Animal Rescue Center. Please visit the website: www.parrotcare.org
My Promise to Veterans and Animals
My other sanctuary, the Lockwood Animal Rescue Center, was co-founded with my husband, a decorated combat veteran. Although not open to the public, this sanctuary employs our wounded heroes to care for similarly traumatized wolves and wolfdogs in our Wolves and Warriors program. The veterans also care for our orphaned coyotes and the horses used to make Premarin rescued from the pharmaceutical industry. Visit that website as well: www.lockwoodarc.org
Psychological Assessments and Consultation
My practice is limited to providing trainings, consultation, psychological testing, and expert witness testimony particularly with regard to trauma in animals and humans.
Trauma & PTSD
Trained in EMDR, Response Prevention and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I have been working with veterans suffering from trauma since starting as the Clinical Director of New Directions for Homeless Veterans at the West Los Angeles VA Healthcare Center in 1997. My focus is now centered around the two sanctuaries and my work with animals and veterans.
Lectures and Trainings
I am available as an expert speaker in the following areas: trauma, multiculturalism, cultural competency, veterans and PTSD, the Link between interpersonal violence and animal cruelty, healing through compassion and empathy building, and the power of animals in regenerating our hearts and minds.
